โHow are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!โ (2 samuel 1:27).
๐ฎMESSAGE
Samuel had previously told Saul, โTomorrow you and your sons will join me, and the Lord will also give the army of Israel over to the Philistinesโ (1 Samuel 28: 19). Saul with his three sons died as prophesied. Saulโs death proximate his failure to entirely destroy the Amalekites. David was informed about this death and he was grieved.
He then composed a dirge for Saul and Jonathan. In his opening and closing elegy we find these words, โHow are the mighty fallenโ. David was not asking a question as how did the mighty fall. He was saying, โSee how the mighty soldiers have fallen!โ Yes, the mighty soldiers have fallen! They have been stripped off their weapons.
God is Spirit; we are spirit and must worship Him in spirit and in truth. How many times have you failed to kill all the Amalekites in your life? Can you make Heaven with any Amalekite of laziness, secret sin, gossip, greed, covetousness, envy, or unforgiving in you? The battle of the last days will be fierce and if you have a mole of these in your heart, you will die spiritually and be stripped off your holiness.
Saul was a mighty soldier, but when he failed to kill all the Amalekites, he became very weak and died shamefully; the Lord departed from him. Oh, how the mighty soldiers have fallen! Their weapons are rendered useless, they are dead.
